What Is Included With Battery Service?
When you bring your vehicle in, our expert technicians will conduct an inspection and perform a diagnostic test to discern why you are having problems starting the engine. Once they figure it out, they will provide an estimate, then they will talk with you about what they’ve discovered. Finally, you will be advised how to proceed according to their recommendations, but they will do nothing else unless you authorize it.
Most Common Problems When Your Vehicle Won’t Start
- Drained but otherwise healthy battery: This is the most common problem, and it means that you left a door partially open, your lights on or a dome light on, or something similar and it drained your battery. If this is the cause, then a jump start will get you going again.
- Battery is not holding a charge: This just means your battery is dying, and you need a new one. If a jump start or battery charger won’t do it, a new battery will.
- Ignition system problem: If this is the problem, it means that your battery is not the issue. In this case it could be the starter system, the alternator, the spark plugs, wiring, fuse or relay, or some other starter system component.
If the jump start doesn’t work, or you need to keep jumping the battery every time you need to go somewhere, have your battery tested at Serra Toyota of Decatur. Let our technicians help with your startup problems.
You can also inspect your terminals and connectors for corrosion yourself. If there is corrosion, cleaning up the battery may take care of your problem, but you’ll still want to have the battery tested to rule it out as an issue.
Battery Is Not Holding a Charge
If this is the problem, it can be relegated to corrosion, a mechanical issue draining the battery (doors not closing properly, faulty latch, etc.), end of battery life, or a bad alternator, which I responsible for recharging your battery as you drive. It could be some other part defect, from fuses to a serpentine belt. The bottom line is if you are having problems getting your vehicle started, bring it into Serra Toyota of Decatur and let our service team help solve your issue.
