Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS)

By now, you've probably heard a great deal about Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). This is perhaps because over the last couple of years, Toyota has focused on expanding driver-assistive safety equipment across their model lineup and now has successfully installed the suite of safety systems as standard equipment on all 2018 model years of their famous vehicles. This has garnered them recognition as a front-runner in the active safety segment as well as cemented them in the running for top safety awards for a number of their new 2018 models.

Improving safety is a cornerstone of Toyota's objectives for its new models and future vehicles. The TSS combines a number of advanced safety systems that work together to create a holistic approach to safety. These systems include the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, and the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. We're going to go over each technology so you can see how these systems function to keep you safer while driving. Peace of mind comes standard with TSS-equipped Toyota models.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

This system will alert you and apply the brakes if it detects a potential frontal collision. It uses an integrated camera and radar system to reduce the likelihood of colliding with pedestrians or preceding cars.

Lane Departure Alert

The Lane Departure Alert uses a camera on your windshield to help you stay within your lane. This system works to avoid unintended lane departure by alerting you when it senses that you are drifting from your lane.

Automatic High Beams

Also working in conjunction with a camera on your windshield, this system aids in nighttime driving by detecting headlights and taillights of preceding vehicles and switches between high and low beams according to your surroundings

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

This cruise control system uses the combination of radar and camera to monitor the distance from your car to the one in front of you and can adjust the speed of your cruise control to maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the one ahead.

Second Generation of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS)

As Toyota continues to work on safety technologies and implement them across the vehicle lineup, they are also updating and improving the TSS suite of safety systems to better serve drivers in the future. Recently announced, the second generation of the Toyota Safety Sense technologies carries a host of updates and a number of new technologies. Toyota has updated the Pre-Collision System, the Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and the Lane Departure Alert system, as well as added two new systems. These are the Road Sign Assist system and the Lane Tracing Assist system.

These future technologies will increase the already impressive TSS technology and work to create a safer driving environment for all.  Do you have questions about the Toyota Safety Sense suite of technologies and which vehicles offer these systems?
