Gas-powered models offer a manufacturer-estimated 22 combined mpg on the road while the Highlander Hybrid models offer an estimated 34 combined mpg. Hybrid models are powered by the Toyota Hybrid System which features a high-efficiency 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine paired to two electric motors to generate 240 horsepower.
The 2020 Highlander offers a versatile interior with seating for up to eight passengers and up to 73.3 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. The Highlander L and LE come standard with seating for eight with the three-passenger second-row and third-row bench seats. Highlander XLE, Limited, and Platinum models offer a little more wiggle room with their two Captain's Chairs in the second row in place of a three-passenger bench, making room for up to seven passengers. Drivers can opt to replace the Captain’s Chairs with a bench seat in the XLE and Limited trims.
Safety is a top priority for the 2020 Highlander, which is why every model in the lineup comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.
