The addition of a hatchback version of the Toyota Corolla to the automaker’s lineup has really been something to behold. Historically, the hatchback has been a humble platform that was meant to be as affordable, as efficient and as convenient to use as possible. The Corolla Hatchback certainly fits that bill, but it also adds incredible performance specs to the mix. A comparison of the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback vs. 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage clearly illustrates some of the glaring disparities found among the vehicles in this corner of the automotive industry. The 2020 Corolla Hatchback offers its drivers more than twice the amount of horsepower as its Mitsubishi competitor – without sacrificing relative fuel economy scores. Additionally, the 2020 Corolla Hatchback offers more connectivity options. Toyota of Decatur customers can start the pre-ordering process today by calling 256-274-4354.

From a distance, it would appear that the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback and 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage are just run-of-the-mill hatchbacks. Both have two rows of seats that can hold five passengers. The Toyota model offers just about 18 cubic-feet of trunk space when there are people sitting in the back seat. That space can be expanded to more than 23 cubic-feet when the standard rear folding seat is down. Owners of the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage will have access to similar cargo volume measurements. The 2020 Corolla Hatchback is truly a 21st century vehicle. All of its trim grades are equipped with a smartphone-compatible infotainment system with access to Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ applications. Potential owners of the 2020 Mirage will need to choose its upper trims to have access to this technology. Toyota has also made a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot available, a feature that is not available in the Mitsubishi vehicle.

Performance Specs and Fuel Economy

Toyota has equipped the 2020 Corolla Hatchback with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. Both powertrain versions will be able to produce 168 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Corolla Hatchback models with the manual transmission will be able to record 28 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles per gallon on the highway. Customers who choose the CVT can expect the vehicle to achieve at least 30 mpg in the city and up to 41 mpg on the highway, depending on which trim grade they choose.

Mitsubishi employs a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine that can be attached to a five-speed manual or a CVT of its own. It will produce just 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque. Despite making less than half the amount of power as the 2020 Corolla Hatchback, the fuel economy scores for the 2020 Mirage are only a few points better.
