Are you using the right kind of gas in your Toyota vehicle?

Do any Toyota vehicles require premium gasoline?

There is so much changing with the new class of Toyota vehicles available at the Serra Toyota of Decatur showroom. These vehicles are ground-breaking in so many ways, that it has forced many of our customers to go back to basics and rethink they questions they ask during a visit to our facility. We’ve been hearing, ‘Do any Toyota vehicles require premium gasoline,’ quite a bit. Our team of product experts thought that this is an important enough question that we should get this information out to as many people as possible. For the most part, almost every new Toyota vehicle is designed to work with regular grade gasoline. However, there are still some things you need to know, and we’ll cover them below.

As of right now, the only 2020 Toyota vehicle on the market today that requires the use of premium gasoline is the 2020 Toyota GR Supra. If an owner fills the tank up with regular-grade gasoline, it might not be ideal but there probably won’t be any long-term damage. Using the wrong kind of fuel in a vehicle like the 2020 GR Supra could lead to a drop in top-end performance and lower fuel economy scores. This will probably be fixed as soon as the tank is emptied, and the right gas is used.

What is premium fuel?

The different kinds of fuel that are available at gas stations are really just a difference in octane. Premium-grade gasoline has a higher ratio of octane, which actually makes the fuel harder to ignite. Gasoline that explodes on a small scale when it isn’t supposed to happen is what is known as engine knocking. This resistance to ignition is required in high-compression engines, like the one used by the 2020 GR Supra, to achieve these high-performance outputs.

Earlier, we laid out what will happen if the wrong fuel is put in a vehicle that requires premium. But what if the reverse happens? A vehicle that is designed to run on regular-grade gas but is filled with premium won’t see any ill effects. It will make for a more expensive stop for gas but no other problems. In fact, most vehicles employ a fuel system that will change certain settings to make it run on almost any fuel. It’s more important that the fuel itself is of a high-quality and purchased from a reputable gas station.
