When Will the Toyota Camry and Avalon Have an All-Wheel Drive System? AWD Toyota Avalon driving on snowy road

To meet the increasing demand for AWD vehicles throughout the U.S., Toyota has begun developing a Dynamic Torque Control AWD system that will be available for Avalon and Camry models exclusively in North America. This AWD system will be a standalone option for the Camry LE, XLE, SE, and XSE trim grades as well as for the Avalon XLE and Limited. This will be the first-ever Toyota Avalon to feature an AWD system and it will be the first AWD Camry in nearly 30 years.

These AWD Toyota sedans will be powered by a high-efficiency 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine mated to an 8-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission. The Camry LE, XLE, and SE AWD models will pump out 202 horsepower on the road while both Avalon AWD models and the Camry XSE AWD will generate a slightly higher 205 horsepower. With the help of the AWD system, the Camry and Avalon AWD models will offer drivers incredible fuel efficiency while providing added traction during harsh weather conditions.

When Can I Get an AWD Avalon or Camry?

The AWD option will be available on 2020 Toyota Camry models as soon as early spring of 2020. Those interested in an AWD Avalon will have to wait a little longer, as the all-wheel-drive option will not be available on 2020 models. Drivers can expect to see the AWD option on 2021 Avalon models, which should hit dealerships sometime in the fall of 2020.
