When shopping for a new pickup, it’s important to know that 7,000-lb. hunk of machinery was designed with safety in mind. The 2019 Toyota Tundra offers a remarkable list of active and passive safety features that will leave you feeling more confident and at ease behind the wheel. Read on to learn more about the Tundra’s diverse suite of safety technology.

Active and Passive Safety Features in the 2019 Toyota Tundra

Toyota Safety Sense™ Features

Standard on the Tundra, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection System uses camera and radar technology to detect vehicle or pedestrian collision risks on the road ahead. The system is designed to prompt you of potential hazards with audio and visual alerts. If a collision is imminent, Tundra can even automatically apply the brakes to avoid or reduce the severity of the impact.

Also offered on every Tundra, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control automatically adjusts your speed to maintain a preset distance from slower-moving vehicles ahead. When the vehicle is no longer present, the system returns to your preset speed, eliminating the need for constant cruise control adjustments.

The Tundra doesn’t stop there, topping its standard active safety package with Automatic High Beams and Lane Departure Alert.

Other Available Active Safety Features:

  • Front and rear parking assist sonar
  • Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Trailer-Sway Control

The 2019 Tundra comes equipped with 8 airbags, including driver and front outboard passenger airbags, side curtain airbags and front-seat mounted side airbags. The Tundra is the only truck to feature driver and front outboard passenger knee airbags.

Equipped with the Toyota Star Safety System™, the Tundra features an integrated set of passive safety technologies, including Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist and Smart Stop Technology.
