The 2017 Highlander debuted in March of 2016 at the New York International Auto Show. We should expect the 2017 Toyota Highlander towing capacity to be around or exceed 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, like the 2016 Highlander.

2017 Highlander towing and performance capability
Thanks to a new direct shift 8-speed automatic transmission and 3.5-liter direct injection V6 engine, we can expect to see an increase in horsepower and fuel economy. That new 8AT will be standard on every new 2017 Highlander V6 gas model. The 3.5-liter V6 engine will come standard on all hybrid Highlander models and come available on all gas Highlander models. The 2017 Sienna mini-van will also sport the same transmission and engine upgrades.
Standard powertrain Highlander gas models will still come with the 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine, along with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Also coming standard in the 2017 model year is Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS). TSS puts together a host of cutting-edge safety technology that includes Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pedestrian Pre-Collision System, and Automatic High Beams.
With a powerful new engine and improved transmission, we can suspect with confidence that the 2017 Highlander towing capacity will most likely exceed that of the 2016 model.
Highlander 2017 trim levels
The 8-passenger Highlander will come with the choice of three different powertrain options and six model grades that include LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited and Limited Platinum. All trim levels will be available in both front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.
Improvements will be noticeable throughout the entire lineup of Highlander models. All grades sport new upper and lower grille designs, along with altered grille finishes. Three new exterior colors are available to choose from: Celestial Silver Metallic, Toasted Walnut Pearl, and Salsa Red Pearl.
There are a number of other new and improved features on the 2017 Highlander that we’ve addressed in a previous blog post. We can’t see what the new Highlander has in store when it arrives at Serra Toyota of Decatur!
